if you're frustrated with the job process
and you don't know why they're not calling you back
you don't know why you can't get past interview
or get past the resume stage
there is something that you are missing
it's the master key to getting a job that most people don't talk about
and most people don't know
in this short video
I'm going to share with you what that master key is
how to find it and how to get past
the resistance that you have
in getting the job that you desire and deserve
can't wait for you to get this info
hi my name is Krista Robertson
and I have assisted 27 leaders with doubling their salaries
in the past five years they use this master key
let's talk about the secrets to the hidden job market
I was offered over 35 jobs after I left my career
and I thought that everybody had that problem
and so I want to share a couple of things with you today
with regards to how to get a job
the nuts and the bolts like the really
really really
really basic things because I see so many people making
mistakes and having challenges with regards to where they are
if you are with me put I am with you in the chat
I wanna show y'all this graphic right quick
because I wanna show you the cycle
and then I wanna dissect it a little bit
and then I my goal is to put it back together for you
when it comes to getting a job when you're over 35
there's a difference in a 25 year old getting a job
a 35 45
50 year old getting a job
and so
I've seen all these people talk about ageism and all of these things
it's like no
there are certain things that need to be known
there are certain expectations that need to be had
before we even jump out here in the streets
if you're over 35 and you're looking for a role
the first thing to think about is what are you passionate about
let's be clear passion beats a pulse all day
passion beats experience all day
passion will win over a PhD all day
every single d a y day so if you're over 30 something
I want you to think about what are you passionate about
and if you don't know that
then that's the equation to solve for
what is your unique selling proposition
what experience do you have in the market
that makes you stand out from your peers
and if you don't know that
that's the work if you have 10
15 20 years of experience
there is something that you do that somebody else doesn't do
there is something that you do specifically
there is something that you love to do that's in your job
and let's be clear we like to do 100 jobs
I was doing five different jobs and I loved all of it
but when it comes down to what did I love the most
it was coaching and mentoring
well in the military
that was normal I didn't know that that was a career path
IE leadership and development in the civilian world
but that was my favorite thing to do
that gave me the biggest joy
that was the biggest return on my invested time with people
because I could see it I'm doing the exact same thing today
when it comes down to your unique selling proposition
write down 20 things that you have done in the past five years
write down 20 exceptional things
and here's the thing
when I ask women especially to write down 20 things
it's like getting a root canal
it's so hard and I'm like
well what's the point of working
if you're not gonna take credit for your work
I mean an hour to write down 20 things like pulling teeth
and this is where the conditioning comes in
with regards to being humble
we're mad at people who take credit for your work
and people who don't necessarily
they fluff up the things that they've done
and I've seen so many overqualified
absolutely brilliant people sitting in jobs where they don't belong
where they're overworked and underpaid
but you can't explain what you've done
when I was in the Coast Guard
I sat on a lot of selection panels to select who was gonna
come into the service who we were gonna promote
I was always doing something extra I've selling at least six to 10
I think it was six in like two years
but 10 panels I've reviewed hundreds of resumes
I've interviewed 60 to 70 people
the people who could explain in their resume to six
people are sitting in the room
you have a pilot you have me that was marine safety
so we were the scientist you had the ship the boat drivers
you had an admin person so
you have people that have different career paths
that are sitting in this room
selecting
who was going to get advanced with regards to coming into the service
or the people who were gonna get selected as officers
the person that spoke the clearest to all of us across the board
with the clearest understanding of what they've done
where an 8th grader could understand it
are the people that we all agreed were the issue
the people who couldn't explain what they've done
although they may have worked harder
although they have made significant achievements in the organization
if you only spoke to the industry that you were in
the pilot was so impressed with somebody who said
they became a drop basket supervisor in two months well
we don't know what a drop basket supervisor is so she was like
oh my god
this person is great the other you know everybody else was like man
like we don't know what that means
but if they would have said
became a drop basket supervisor in two months when the average is 10
that gives us context so
the reason why I put passion first is
once you figure out what your passion is
then you wanna start to write your resume
and craft it to be in the role that you desire
put yes or thumbs up
if you understand that you want to take credit for what you've done
you want to have a unique selling proposition
the things that you're going to be passionate about look
we are long past working with for jobs just to have a job
we are long past getting a dream job
expecting it to make you happy
or getting a manager and expecting that person make you happy
I want you to start to craft what you want to do
and how you want to show up in the world
and you're gonna craft your resume
based on the things that you've done
and when I talk to people who hire resume writers is like
you're giving the resume writer
not specifically the great things that you've done
and you want them to spin it into cotton candy
and you haven't adequately taken credit for what you've done
so I have an example somebody's resume and I used to write
I used to help people write resumes back in the day
now I I have a e course like I I can't
but I want to give you an example of something that's vague
proven track record of 10+ years retail experience
and I saw somebody on LinkedIn that talked about the other day
I have 15 years experience and I can't get a job
and I'm like yeah
but 15 years experience and doing what
just saying that you have 15 years experience
isn't enough to be able to get the attention of somebody
it's have you have 15 years experience of doing what
and how can you solve the problem
and are you passionate about it
and do you want to come in here and solve my problems
that's what companies want
10 years experience capitalizing on growth opportunities
implementing strategies like that really says nothing
proven track record of 10 years experience
that's not true actually
she was an award winning retail manager
with over 15 years experience in providing customer service
merchandise and millions of dollars in inventory annually
handling cash and successfully leading sales associates
she never talked about the millions of dollars
she actually had 15 years experience in customer service
customer service was the job that she was going for
she handled cash like you have to be a trustworthy person
so we embedded that in the job description
and her role of what she wanted
and successfully LED people
she didn't talk about this in this example of what she did
I wanna show y'all another one
these are her awards promoted
from 2.2 million dollar store to 2.8 million dollar store
with a growth potential of $3.2 million like look
what does that mean to the people who don't understand retail
put make sense in the chat if this makes sense to you
does this make sense to you if you're not in retail
and again when you're writing your resume
you want it to be specific to what you want to do
that you're passionate about
but make it clear that other people can understand it
reduce shrink from a 4.35 to a 1.17
like what does that even mean
and this is what I changed it to 2018
she worked at Express Program Select t for top performance
so award Boom
APEX Award highest award
she got that she didn't even say that in the previous one
top 100 store she was ranked in the top 15%
she was the top co manager and she received the star award
and I know that I'm grazing over this and over the next couple weeks
I'm gonna make some in depth videos for y'all
but I wanna just hit the high notes
when we're talking about these things
what you're passionate about is going to lead to your resume
